SoapUI v. Appscan

Hi,

This is not a technical query. I want to demonstrate to my higher executives that SoapUI is better than Appscan by IBM, so that we can use SoapUI instead of any other WS testing tool in all our projects.

Could you please help me with this? What are the features supported by SoapUI that are also in Appscan?

I would appreciate if you can give me info on this as early as possible.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Thanks for your confidence! Can you provide me with a link to appscan features related to web service testing and I'll try to give you a quick overview on the differences? Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Ole,

Please find details of Appscan at this link.

    http://www-111.ibm.com/software/dre/hmc ... 6V43460Q17

Could you please let me know what features that are listed in the above link is also available in SoapUI? and please mention if it is present in a Pro version or available in the freeware too.

You would probably find the below links useful too...

    http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtool ... nterprise/
    http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtool ... CMP=wspace

    http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtool ... /standard/

    http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtool ... an/tester/
    http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtool ... S_CMP=rnav

I want to use SoapUI over any other tool, so if there are any extra features that are present in SoapUI, please do mention that as well.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,

thanks, I'll have a look. A quick impression is that AppScan seems to be for testing Web Applications (ie HTML), not Web Services. Is this correct? How are you using it to test your Web Services currently?

    regards!

  • Hi Ole,

We are not using Appscan currently. Our projects are using different custom built tools for testing, and we are planning to standardize to one single tool all over the organization, with SoapUI and Appscan as two options to choose from.

And hence i need this information.

Thanks for the help in advance.
    KC.

    Hi!

It seems to me that comparing AppScan to soapUI is going to be a bit like comparing apples and pears since they are used for testing different types of applications/components; they seem to be more of a complement to each other than competitors in an enterprise testing setup. What you could do is compare AppScan to the web-application testing possibilities in PushToTest (http://www.pushtotest.com), which includes both soapUI and web-application testing with tools like Selenium, etc.

Does that make sense and sound reasonable to you?

    regards!
