They are not interlocked. Once you convert a keyword test to script, you are effectively making a copy. Altering the keyword test does not alter the script nor does it work the other way around.
Functionally, once the conversion is done, they perform the same task, but they are not directly linked any more and any edits made to one or the other is scoped to that item.

Why automate? I do automated testing because there's only so much a human being can do and remain healthy. Sleep is a requirement. So, while people sleep, automation that I create does what I've described above in order to make sure that nothing gets past the final defense of the testing group.
