Can the soapui pro 2.5 global settings "Script Library" be a search path? I'm thinking along the lines of something like (say) ${projectDir}/bin/scripts:~/soapui/bin/scripts:${workingDir}/bin/scripts...

Your guess is correct; the answer is no, but please add a feature request here in the soapUI Pro Feature Requests forum and we'll fix it pretty soon.
