I hope to import our Zephyr Data into Databricks (via the API) and produce BI dashboards in PowerBI. I want to produce BI dashboards around test coverage per release, test execution progress, traceability etc etc. Has anyone accomplished something like this and is there a data model available or do we need to build it from scratch ourselves in Databricks?

To import Zephyr data into Databricks via the API and create BI dashboards in Power BI for test coverage, execution progress, and traceability, here’s what you need to know: 1. Data Model: Zephyr does not provide a prebuilt data model for Databricks or Power BI. You will need to build a custom data model from scratch based on the data you extract. 2. Data Extraction: - Use the Zephyr REST API to extract the required data. Key endpoints include GET /testexecutions for retrieving execution results, test case coverage, and Jira issue coverage. - The API supports fetching test cases, test cycles, test executions, and execution results. 3. Power BI Integration: - Zephyr documentation supports using the Tempo Power BI Connector for Jira to expose Zephyr test management data in Power BI. - Load Zephyr-related tables (test cases, test cycles, test executions, execution results) into Power BI. - Define relationships between Zephyr tables and Jira work item tables to build dashboards. 4. Databricks: While the documentation does not explicitly mention Databricks, you can transform the API data into a structure suitable for Databricks and then use it as a data source for Power BI. 5. Dashboard Creation: - Build dashboards in Power BI by creating measures such as pass rate, execution count, and coverage. - Visualise test coverage, execution progress, and traceability using the loaded data. Sources - Using Power BI with Zephyr (Using Power BI | Zephyr Documentation) - Zephyr REST API Documentation (Via REST API | Zephyr DC Documentation) - Zephyr Migration Scripts (Migration Scripts | Zephyr DC Documentation)
Just a note, there seem to be some limitations that i’m trying to solve for… I’m doing this now; and have been throughout the year. I currently use the Tempo Power BI connector; however Zephyr data is not filterable aside from project and/or Folder. If you want to do Incremental refresh, that is off the table through the connector.
I’m now diving into the API; but it appears to have the same limitation. Does anyone know if filtering by Last updated or some other date field besides “Created on” works?
