Upgraded project from TestComplete 9.20 to 12.42 x64 and lost the ability to Spy TextObjects

Upgraded project from TestComplete 9.20 to 12.42 x64 and now I am unable to spy TextObjects with the Text Recognition property "AfxWnd100u".  During test execution I intermittently can get TextObject...

If you change it to "AfxWnd*" are you able to force TestComplete to recognize text, or is it only on some controls?
