it fixes the problem with the unable to find the object popup and the test shuts down as it should.

Only problem that still exists is the "object recognition hint" ... I have a timeout on this click of 500ms but after this 500ms it tries like 1 minute (or even longer) "preparing object recognition hint" which on multiple errors prolongs the test execution by far

is there a way to turn this off too?

I am not sure if some setting to disable object recognition hint exists...

However, I think that 'object not found' error must not happen in production tests and if it happens, this means a problem (with the test code or tested application itself) and object recognition hint might help in this case.

If your goal is to check that some object does not exist indeed, then the recommended approach is to try to get this object using appropriate WaitXXX() function, check if the object was found (via .Exists property) and proceed appropriately.

Some sample pseudocode:

var browser = Sys.WaitBrowser("*smartbear.com", 0); // just check if the browser pointing to SmartBear's site exists in the system

if (browser.Exists)

  // found

else

  // not found

I just want in the case of a missing button / notification dialogue or whatever, that the test fails within the set timeout and not to wait for minutes which prolongs larger test-suites if this happens multiple times because for example the password page is broken somehow and you have 20 different tests for the password page, all failing and waiting with the object recognition hint 1+ minutes

This is why you build in such checkes... "If object does not exist, then stop execution"...  Rather than having the test just keep on trying, make your code/keyword tests smarter so that they actually fail more gracefully if for some reason an object is not available.
