Hi m_essaid,
I suppose you've updated TestComplete/TestExecute rather than reinstalling/installing the product, right?
I would suggest that you remove the current TestComplete version from your computer, clear the installation folder (as a rule, it’s Program Files\SmartBear\TestComplete) and install v. 11.20 anew.
Does this help?
hi Tanya,
ouch... I really don't have the time to desinstall/reinstall everything...
what about the licence key ?

Don’t deactivate the license when uninstalling (you’ll be asked). In this case, TestComplete will catch the current license on start.

I wish I could say that this solution works, but unfortunately for me, it has not helped at all. I fully uninstalled TestComplete 11 (leaving my license) and then reinstalled clean, but still no luck.
My situation is very much the same as that of m_essaid. I'm using version 11.20 (but has been happening since upgrading to version 10). While working in the development environemt with NO INSTANCES of TestExecute running tests against my machine, I frequently have TestComplete stop responding while switching between script tabs.
I could live with a couple of seconds, but in my case, it stops responding for 30 to 40 SECONDS! This is totally unacceptable behaviour because if I need to switch between tabs frequently, the waiting destroys all hope of being productive.
At times, I have taken to scripting in NotePad++, which, considering the cost of TestComplete, is outrageous.
Suffice it to say that while I was very happy with our earlier 7.5 version of TestComplete, since upgrading to version 10, then 11, my opion of this application has plummeted. I dread having to create new scripts now because if its "bad" TestComplete day, it is unusable, and developing outside the IDE is much less productive.I can't help but think that this is due to the License Server since licensing in 7.5 was "less obtrusive" than it is now.
My development system is 64 bit Windows 7 Service Professional Pack 1(updated to latest MS patches), running on an Intel Core i7-4400 at 3.40GHz, with 8 GB RAM. My system is never "starved" for resources and the only application that gives me issues is TestComplete.
This issue really needs to be addresssed by SmartBear, as it makes their application a chore to use when it should be a responsive tool.William

From version 10 onwards, I noticed some performance degradation.
For me, unchecking and un-used extensions (not script extentions, full extentions), which are all switched on by default, got most of my performance back.
TestComplete comes with a pretty sizeable number of extensions (60+?). Most of my tests only actually need 6 or 7 of them.
(This has been discussed on here before. A few of us - myself included - would prefer they were switched off by default and you only switch on what you need. But I appreciate this may make life more difficult for those new to it. Or storing extension settings at project level. Which is probably a more workable solution.)
(For ref - I run TestComplete on a VM. My host machine is a Win 7 Pro 64 bit, i7-2600 with 16gb of RAM. The VM is lower spec than this. It all runs on a Samsung EVO SSD, which helps. Speed using TC11.20 is OK.)
