Support for Terminal Emulators

I am trying to find the latest information regarding how TestComplete can work with a 3270 app via a terminal emulator such as AttachMate.   The other two forum posts that I see are a few years old.

The only information that I can find on the support site is this article http://support.smartbear.com/viewarticle/73880/

Does TestComplete only recognize the entire window and therefore everything is based on x,y coordinates?  Will record/replay work at all on this type of application?

I am new to automation and right now trying to determine the level of support that TestComplete provides for TE apps.
