"Scanning" a barcode

We have a situation in our application under test where we need to "scan" a barcode in order to get the numerical equivalent of the barcode to be able to enter in...

Links to a few others in there. And if you click into them, the comments on the repo's tend to contain links to others! I daresay there is likely to be something amongst all these that could be converted into a script extension without too much hassle ...
Yup, all sorts out there so, if need be, that's something that I can do. However, turns out that the barcode type that I would need to scan is, somehow, rather proprietary to the system in question so "off the shelf" scanner simulators/decoders would not help... and I don't have access to the source to be able to get a decoder library.
In any case, turns out that we're not going to automate that segment of the application at this time... perhaps in the future, but for now it's been de-prioritized.
