When we see the screen shot of the 'Polar bear in a snowstorm', we know that the console was not logged on.
You need to make sure that there is an active desktop. Sometimes when disconnectiong from a remote desktop session, you will get this 'white' screen.
That's my best guess...

Thanks for your response, but I don't believe that is the issue. The very next step in the log where the error occured does have a screenshot, and the test would not have been able to get as far as it did without being logged on to the console. The tests are also run on a local machine, so not remote desktop sessions to worry about.
