Firefox 140.0 ESR support?

I was performing recordings and playbacks with Firefox 115.10 ESR, but I have to start testing my software with the latest ESR (140.0 ESR).

What's the typical time frame I can expect to wait for TestComplete to be update to support this new ESR version?

In the mean time are there any workarounds or tricks I can use to make TestComplete work with 140.0 ESR?

  • Hey,

Pawel from the TestComplete product team here šŸ‘‹ Just a quick update — support for the latest Firefox versions is coming soon!

We’ve had issues supporting Firefox versions above 115 for a while now. Over the past few months, we’ve been completely rewriting how Firefox support works under the hood. The good news is: the new approach is almost ready, and we plan to release it publicly this quarter.

Once it’s out, we’ll update the documentation and, of course, include the details in our release notes.

In current TC versions all FF versions above 115 will not work.

    Best regards,
    Pawel

  • According to the official documentation (https://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/app-testing/web/supported-browsers/index.html), TestComplete does not yet support Firefox ESR 140. You’re free to try it out, but you may encounter issues that won’t be officially addressed until compatibility is added.

Based on SmartBear’s past cadence—typically delivering new ESR support within 4–12 weeks of the ESR release (Firefox ESR 140 went live June 24, 2025)—I’d estimate official support arriving around October 2025.

To help accelerate this, please open a support ticket with SmartBear and stress your urgency. High-demand versions often move up the roadmap.

    These release notes state:

Extended support for Firefox browsers. TestComplete now supports all current and future versions of Firefox. There's no need to wait for compatibility updates anymore - TestComplete will automatically work with new Firefox releases as they become available.

    https://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/ver-15-77/general-info/whats-new.html

This Supported Browsers page still states:

    Mozilla Firefox 91 - 115.10 ESR, 94 - 140 (both 32- and 64-bit versions)

When I try using Firefox 140ESR TestComplete still does not see objects.

Has anyone else had any success using newer Firefox versions? In particular the ESR branch?

šŸ” Possible reasons TestComplete ā€œdoes not see objectsā€ in Firefox 140 ESR

      1. Firefox wasn't launched via tcFirefoxRunner.exe — TestComplete requires Firefox to be started in RemoteAgent mode using this executable to enable proper object recognition.
      2. WebSockets are blocked or unavailable — TestComplete communicates with Firefox via localhost WebSockets (starting at port 8080). If blocked by firewall or system policies, it cannot interact with the browser.
      3. Documentation discrepancy on version support — While the release notes state extended support for all future Firefox versions, the Supported Browsers page still lists Firefox 91–115.10 ESR and 94–140 as officially supported. This may point to a lag in documentation updates rather than a functional limitation.
      4. Required plugins disabled — Ensure that both the Web Testing and Firefox Support plugins are enabled within TestComplete.

Still works fine - TC is able to identify all UI controls on the page

It should work fine unless there is something specific to 140.0 ESR you are testing.  I am not sure how frequently the supported release lists are updated by SmartBear.  As you likely know  Firefox ESR 102.0.1 is the last release listed.

Nothing specific. Object Spy is unable to identify any objects inside the 140.0ESR browser. When I switch back to 115.10ESR Object Spy sees all the objects inside the browser.

Has anyone else here seen other reports of object spy issues.  I would send a ticket into support.  Maybe something needs to be patched?
