Find/Replace changes not being saved

We have found that if there are a large number (maybe > 20) changes made in Find/Replace, that not all the changes are saved, even if Save All is used.  Is this an known issue?  Is there a suggested workaround?

We are using TestComplete 9.20.2460.7

Not exactly that but yesterday I discovered that

    TC would find this:  ItemView

    but not this:   ItemView.

  • Hi,

There are several questions in the thread. Let me answer them one by one:

    1. >>I have about 30 changes that are listed in the Search/Replace Results. If I Save All, the changes are not saved.

I've failed to reproduce this issue on a simple project in TestComplete 10.10. Could you please check whether this issue persists on your computer with the latest TestComplete version?

    2. >>I'd also like to request an enhancement to this feature to allow for Find/Replace to work for changing Parameters.

We have a suggestion to improve the Find/Replace feature in keyword tests in our DB. Heather, Marsha, I've added your votes to it. Thanks!

    3. >>While using find,  tc is not correctly  highlighting the searched string. anyone has this issue?

TestComplete 10.10 highlights the sought-for string on my computer. Check what TestComplete version you are using.

Murugan S: While using find,  tc is not correctly  highlighting the searched string. anyone has this issue?

That's probably because TC UI is kinda lazy, try to "pin" the search results tab and then search for the string again.

It happens to me when I search for something that appears "under" the search results when it's not pinned...

    Hope this helps

It's good to know that the problem does not happen in later versions, but please be aware that's it's not always practical for users to just try upgrading to see if our problems go away.

I've had this suggestion from support as well and if it was just me and I had time, I would probably install the trial version and test these things out.  However, it's not just me, I'm part of a much larger test group and we share tests frequently, so we have to upgrade together.

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Hey Guys,

As a workaround for this issue and for the TC problem of not being able to find & replace some columns on keyword tests, you can do this (make a copy of your project just in case something goes wrong!!!).

    1. Get Agent Ransack and Notepad++

    2. Close TC

    3. Using agent ransack, search for the string you want ("containing text") inside your project folder("Look In") (if you don't know what to look for, open your keyword file with notepad++ and try to understand how it works)

    4. When you get the results, select all of them, righ-click and select "edit with notepad++"

    5. On np++, use the "Find&Replace" (Ctrl+H) and select "Replace All in All Opened Documents" after you entered Find what"" and "replace with" on the form.

    6. Open TC again and see if everything works

    Hope it helps.

    Hi Tanya,

I have screen captures that I would post here, however they show content that I cannot share with a public forum.

I entered a support ticket and would be more than happy to share the steps to replicate in the latest version of TC, however I do not have the ability to add to ticket M0122275.

Is there an email where I can forward the captures showing the global Find/Replace results then what happens when I close the project, reopen and the original string is still present?

    -Heather

  • Hi,

An important note to Jose's suggestion, please backup the TestComplete project files before updating them via a third-party tool.

@Heather, you can reply to the message you've got from the Support team where you found the Message ID.
