Custom Performance Counters

Is there a way to add a custom performance counter via scripting?  My test adds hosts and testedapps dynamically based on specfic test.  Therefore, I would like to add a custom performance counter based on hosts/testedapp..  The hosts/tested apps vary from test to test.  Thanks.
