    Does the username or password contains characters, other than alphanumeric characters i.e. @ # & () – [ { } ] : ; ', ? / * 

    I wonder if using the constant values instead, will help?

    [NumAsterisk] Num * (* on the numeric keyboard)
    [NumLock] Num Lock
    [NumMinus] Num - (- on the numeric keyboard)
    [NumPlus] Num + (+ on the numeric keyboard)
    [NumSlash] Num / (/ on the numeric keyboard)

the username has a backslash \ in it between the domain name and the username

the strong password has these four special characters at various places @*)%

are you telling me that the asterisk on the Num Lock keypad of my keyboard is a different character than the asterisk that is generated by the shift+8 key combination?

i could see maybe there being a need to use escape characters (though i don't have any other applications i can think of where i've had to do that for a password with special characters) but i'm willing to try anything to see if it resolves it. 

I will try the NumLock and let you know.
