Attach the test log and email it

Did you come across any issues while trying to perform the workflow mentioned in 'Sending From Scripts' sub-section of 'Sending Results via E-Mail' help topic in the documentation?

I was unable to attach the test log to the email.

It would be nice if you could elaborate on the issue you are facing. When you say 'I was unable to attach' - what exactly do you mean - was there an exception or any error message? Was the size of the file too large and your exchange server rejected it?

I figured out a way to get away from the attachment issue, now the email does not go through unless the script is successful, if the script fails the script does not email the test log.

Have you tried using TestComplete's built-in SendMail function?

It lets you not only send email messages, but also specify files that must be sent with these messages as attachments. The function has the following syntax:

SendMail(ToAddress, FromHost, FromName, FromAddress, Subject, Body, FileName1, FileName2, ... FileNameN)

I did use that function, for some reason if the test fails, the email does not go through. So for now I am able to attach and email the log only if the test is successful

What language of script are you using?  Or are you using a Keyword Test?



Essentially, if you're not using some sort of built-in exception handling in your test and your "send mail" is just one more "step" in your test project, if your project fails and stops execution, it will never get to the line for sending the e-mail.



In a "previous life", we created a routine that would, upon execution, e-mail the log when called.  We then wrapped calls to that routine within try/catch/finally logic so that, even if a test failed, it would still execute the send mail. 



In other words, it's an architecture problem in that you need to put your call to send the e-mail at a point that will always send such as in exception handling code, TestComplete Events, etc.

This is the correct behavior when the test fails before executing a line with the SendMail function. In this case, the test doesn't execute this line at all. That's why the message is not sent.

So, are you sure that the line with the function had been executed before the test failed?

In addition to the answers above, I'd like to add that if you want to send e-mail for each error occurred, you need to process OnLogError event.

@ Robert I am using VBscript, and I tried to use a function to call the attachment and email. But Im trying to run the entire test even if it has some error, I used QTP previously and I knew how to handle it in there.
