.net application menu.

I am testing a .net application and while recording the scripts the menu options in the application are recorded with the x and y  position of the menu control on the screen and not the actual text on the control. I want to access the text or caption of the menu control which is not visible even in the object browser Text or Caption property. The application has a silverlight component to it hence it is layered. The menu controls are of the type popup??.  I am a novice to .net, silverlight and testcomplete. Couple  of my applications menu options switch places with each other as a result of which my tests fail. So I want to access the text or caption of the control and check in the script if the correct menu option is picked. At the same time all the other controls on the application are recorded with the text property of the object ie the caption or name of the controls. the menu is dynamically generated everytime a user logs into the application.

    It looks like the zoom in your browser isn't set to 100%. Set it - TestComplete should recognize objects on the page.


    As for the controls, I'd suggest that you read the "Supported Controls" article - it contains the list of controls officially supported by TestComplete. Do you see your menu control on the list?

    From our experience using TC remotely, we noticed that the issue was the tool we used to connect. Microsoft Remote Desktop was really bad for this because it changed the resolution and the theme.

    We switched to another remote connection tool ( DameWare Mini Remote Control) that keeps the remote machine's screen display as is and now everything work as we were sitting in from of the machine.

    DameWare Mini Remote Control (DMRC) was already widely used so I didn't have to look for alternatives. At some point we had to use Microsoft Remote Desktop because DMRC 8 didn't support Windows 7 and that is when we noticed the remote screen issues.

    We quickly upgradred to DMRC 9 and it has been smooth sailing ever since. ;-)

    if you could post the screen short of your required control from which you want to take the text value , then it could be bit easier to say anything about ???

    Hi , Sorry about that ... screen shot attached ... the top menu is the main menu and they have popup menus.. but both the top and popup menus are identified as popups with index numbers from 0 assigned to each of them independently.

    First of all, sorry for this long delay in replying back. Thank You for your response. After facing these problems we decided to keep TC Automation on the backbench for some time. But now once again,  I have the responsibility to look into this and get things going on the Automation front.



     



    The problem of TC not recognizing .net objects is no longer present, but now I am facing this new issue with TC. We have a network computer where TC 9.2 is installed and I have remote access to this computer from my work station. Now when I work on TC from the remote machine it recognizes all the objects with names and uses them in the scripts - I am attaching a screenshot of the object browser showing all the objects, but when I logon to this computer from my work station and work with TC , it does not recognize some of the objects - Please see attached screen shots.



     



    Please do let me know how this problem can be solved or if I am even making any sense explaining it to you. Will be happy to provide any more information needed.

    Had the same issue that at work TC runs smoothly but when running the same script from home just stops half way.  This is done by remote with Windows. I tried screen resoultion thinking it may be the problem.  When created a simple script it ran great.

    Thanks for the info Simon.  Have you tried VNC?  Does it offer the same results as DameWare?

    Thanks Everybody. I will have to talk to my network expert to understand this issue. I have no idea about what kind of remote connection tool we are using in my company.Kalpita.

    Simon, Installed TightVNC and was able to test the application remotly and this time it was successfull.  It was also faster than Windows Remote software.  If anyone is having the same issue as I had TightVNC is quicker and works very well with TC.
