Am I understanding you correctly - that you're trying to open an XML response/message in SoapUI?
The Red X indicates that it's not a SoapUI related project. SoapUI as structures a project through WSDLs or WADLs etc...

When you create a new project, import the first WSDL or whatever you're doing into SoapUI which will then structure the services that are in the file.
