Here's a bit more info for you.
It seems soapui does not actually hang, rather it is very busy for about twenty minutes while processing the response.
The sequence goes like this...
1. Invoke web service
2. http log shows the received message in full.
3. Progress indicator in the response window animates for a while, but stops after a minute or so.
4. User interface is almost totally non-responsive, OS "top" tool shows the soapui process at >100% CPU.
5. Approximately ten minutes later you hear the 'beep' when the response gets validated
6. User interface is still non-responsive, CPU still shown at >100% CPU.
7. Approximately ten minutes later everything finally comes back to life and the UI is responsive again.
8. soapui request window reports "response time 509ms (4517520 bytes)"
9. The attachment is available in the "Attachments" tab, and is byte-for-byte perfectly received.
As stated earlier, if I don't use MTOM and instead in-line the attachment, everything works very nicely and quickly.
Here is what I get if I do "Help -> About" inside soapui: Build soapui-3.0-dist-24-2009-08-09, Build Date 2009/08/09 19:52
The title bar of the application states "soapUI 3.0.1".
