soapUI with https for functional testing but login problems

I know everyone is busy - but a few pointers would help. Colleagues are beginning to say don't use loadUI/soapUI but use Grinder instead. The lack of info on this may mean that:

for everyone else it just works
you need a script to log in
soapUI just doesn't do it

Pointers on this would help - thanks in anticipation
