Multiple values in property teststep

Hi Suresh,

Can you please provide some more information about the type of data that you are importing, as well as a sample of the XML file that you are trying to import the data to.

Also, can you expand a little on what you are hoping to achieve - when you say you have multiple values for a property (loaded externally), are you trying to simply trying to update the value for each parameter based on an external file (e.g. Test Name = X, Test ID = Y, MyName = Z), or are you trying to dynamically update the property each time a test is run, or something like that?

I am trying to dynamically change a property value for each iteration.
I have multiple 5 digit numeric values for that property in external file.
I am trying to update the property value for each itertaion of the test.
in the below xml request, i am trying the change the property value 'TradeLeg_ID' dynamic for each iteration.

My Sample xml request is:

How far into this are you? By that, I mean, have you already got some groovy script that's handling reading from the external file.
Also, what is your proposed flow for this... can you provide some pseudo-code, or explanation of how you expect SoapUI to execute the iterative property update/transfer.

For instance, how do you expect SoapUI to iterate through each property in the text file? One approach could be that in Test Setup script, each line (or item, if you're doing CSV format) of the text file could be written to an array, and then after using the property in one iteration of the test, you'll move to the next item in the array, and use that as the property value.

I am trying to do the same thing. I have not started any scripting yet was just trying to get some ideas on how to start. I as pretty new to SoapUI and I am not using the Pro version.

If you can, have a think about how you want this to work. In general, it helps to break down the problem into simple language and then you (or I) can start to form a solution.
As mentioned in my previous post, one approach could be to store all external values in an array first, and then iterate through them, but that may not be the most effective approach for you. Out of interest, how many values in the external file are you looking to iterate through, and how is the data arranged (is it in Name-Value pairs, CSV format, or another format)?
Actually handling the file itself (via Groovy) isn't too much of an issue, but it's how you use/need SoapUI to achieve the intended outcome that's important.

I still working on this. I have not done extensive automation using java open source tools. So, it will be learning curve for me.
Its a great oppurtunity i am having at the moment to learn.

How many iterations of the test will there be? Or are you trying to run the test as many times as there are items in the external file?

Its similar to data driven tests. The same logic and approach..to iterate as many rows as in external file, pick value in next row in each iteration and stop and exit the test when all the values in external file are used.

I've created something that you may find of use. In my project I have used just a single TestCase, with 3 TestSteps, in the following order:

1) A groovy step, called 'myGroovy'.
2) A properties file, called 'myProperties', which contains a single property, called 'myParam'
3) A test request, called 'myRequest', containing my SOAP request.

It also assumes you've got a parameters file (called 'params.txt') containing your 5-digit values.

Here's how to set it up:

The groovy step:
In the Groovy step, paste the following code:

The properties step:
The properties step should contain a single parameter, called 'myParam'. I set the initial value to 0.

The SOAP request
You can use whatever SOAP request you want, but make sure you use the parameter identifier, which will be ${myProperties#myParam}.

The groovy step will basically read in the external properties file, and store each line into an array. This array is then iterated in a loop and for each iteration it updates the myParam property, then executes the myRequest test step, using the updated parameter value. The loop will stop when all iterations have been completed.
