UTF-8 characters in ReadyAPI SOAP XML request/responses are boxes

I am using ReadyAPI 3.40.2.  I have UTF-8 characters (i.e. Japanese characters) in my SOAP XML project but they show up as boxes.  I have updated the ReadyAPI.vmoptions file with -Dfile.encoding=UTF8...

    Here is a screenshot of the XML file with the JP characters and after it is imported into ReadyAPI, I only see boxes and the response also only returns boxes.  Thanks.
