[Res]Problems while renaming service

It makes no difference if I delete the entire REST service, close SoapUI Pro, restart my machine and try and again - I get the same result every time. Also, rolling back to 4.6.1 or 4.6.2 does not fix this - it happens now in all versions.

I believe I have determined what is causing this. It seems to be caused by renaming the new service that has been added. It seems that this then causes the null pointer exception and prevents the request editor from being displayed. Trying to delete the affected service freezes the GUI as well. To get around this it is necessary to restart SoapUI Pro and then the service is deleted. It seems that something is potentially getting corrupted as well since if I re-add the REST Service the resource and request from previously are automatically added again, which shouldn't be the case as I deleted the parent object. The 4.6.3 build seems particularly flaky in this regard. I am at a dead stop presently since I need admin rights to uninstall and reinstall SoapUI Pro to see if this resolves the problems and the only people that have admin rights are now on annual leave for the holidays. Also, checking the installation directories shows the previous installs of 4.6.1 and 4.6.2. Shouldn't installing future updates replace the previous version rather than install alongside the earlier version(s). Could this have caused the issues by way of a shared configuration file perhaps since all versions are now behaving the same?

Is there any movement on this please? Can someone confirm if this is a defect and if so, when it will be fixed?

I found it hard to reproduce your problem after doing the following

1. Added a new service using 'New REST Service from URI' from project level context menu
2. added a new resource (which also by default creates a GET request method and fires up the request editor)
3. Close the request editor
4. Rename the service name from service properties

And then re-open the request editor.

I am not sure how you are re-producing this issue. Can you please write steps to re-produce with clear instructions and what values you are entering in each step?

I have been able to circumvent the problem for now by manually editing the project's XML file.

Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. Create a project and call it something arbitrary like 'My Project' (without quotes).
2. Right-click the project node and select 'New REST Service from URI'.
3. Enter the URI - in this example use 'http://maps.googleapis.com' (without quotes). Note how it is not possible to give this a friendly name such as 'Directions' - it has to always be the URI.
4. Right-click the new interface and select 'New Resource'.
5. Provide the resource path; in this example '/maps/api/directions/{format}' (without quotes).
6. Note that the Request Editor window opens by default and the interface name is a rather unfriendly URL.
7. Close the Request Editor window.
8. Now rename the REST service to a user-friendly name 'Direction API' by editing the value in the property sheet at the bottom left.
9. Now try and open the Resource Editor window. It will not open.
10. Rename the REST service to anything that is a URL (doesn't even have to be valid) and then try and open the Resource Editor. Now it will open.

In 4.6.1 and 4.6.2 it was possible to use friendly names for REST services and now it seems this is not possible. This is a regression as far as I can see as I have a *a lot* of REST services to add and I don't want to have to scrutinise the URI to see which one I'm working with.

I edited the XML file for the project and renamed the URI instances to a friendly name and now I can open the request editor and run tests without a hitch which would further seem to prove that this is a defect.

NOTE: I have not been able to give you the URI I am using as I believe my employer would expressly forbid this. My manager is still on annual leave so I cannot ask him if it is OK to share it with SmartBear Support until he returns in the New Year. For this reason I have had to use Google's API but the issue is still reproducible. Also, why are the upgrades to SoapUI Pro installed side-by-side rather than actually being updated? Please see the attached file.

Is this being investigated please? I'm going to encounter this same issue again shortly and I really don't want to have to keep manually editing the project's XML file to get around the problem.

It's just taken me around one hour to edit the XML file once more to allow me to open the Request Editor window for a new method in a new service. Seriously, this is not sustainable. I have at least another forty services to add and the more I add the longer it is going to take me to manually edit the project's XML file, which is in itself error prone and highly undesirable. Please can someone take a look at this? I appreciate that it's New Year's Eve and it may be a national holiday in the country where support is given from but by 02/01/2014 I would like to think that this has been investigated and some response given as I cannot continue like this.

I did the steps you listed above and I'm able to rename the REST service and open the requests using SoapUI Pro 4.6.3. You may need to close all windows and reopen after renaming the REST service.

I imported your project and I can confirm that I can do exactly what I want to do using your project. Trying this again in my project gives me the same results of old - I cannot open the Request Editor. It's like something is corrupted. This forces me to manually edit my XML file each time to correct it and this is getting unworkable. I'm going to install some screen capture software today so you can see exactly what is happening otherwise I can see us both going around in circles in this. I need an admin to install it though as I don't have rights I to install anything on my computer, which is also problematic. The other thing I can do, if it is easier for you, is to see if my manager has any objections to me attaching my project's XML file for to reproduce the steps on. Which would be easier for you? Please let me know and I'll get right on it.

I have found that there are three areas in the XML that are not being renamed when I rename the REST service through the GUI. These are within the:

<con:environment>

elements in each environment. I have three environments: Live, Test and Staging. The specific sub-element that is not having its attribute value correctly renamed is the 'name' attribute in:

<con:service type="REST" name="[my_service_name_here]">

Also the sub-element:

<con:endpoint>

is not being set correctly either - I simply have an empty element:

<con:endpoint/>

rather than:

<con:endpoint domain="" incomingWss="" outgoingWss="" password="" username="" wssTimeToLive="" wssType="" proxyHost="" proxyPort="" proxyUsername="" proxyPassword="">

I'm unsure of how significant this is (if at all) to the problem since I would assume that the two formats are actually synonymous. Could you please provide me with an email address so that I can send you my project's XML file as this is consistently reproducible and I can only get around the problem by manually correcting these broken elements every time I add a new REST Service from URI. Something, somewhere, has caused this behaviour in my XML file. I have put it through a formatter and can see nothing mismatched but this is a concern of mine given I am now manually editing my file to circumvent the problem of not being able to get the Request Editor open after renaming the tree node I create when select 'New REST Service from URI...'. I cannot continue to work like this.
