I found it hard to reproduce your problem after doing the following
1. Added a new service using 'New REST Service from URI' from project level context menu
2. added a new resource (which also by default creates a GET request method and fires up the request editor)
3. Close the request editor
4. Rename the service name from service properties
And then re-open the request editor.
I am not sure how you are re-producing this issue. Can you please write steps to re-produce with clear instructions and what values you are entering in each step?
