Recommended max file size for project .xml

Is there a recommended max size for the project .xml file or any known issues when the project file approaches a certain size?  The only items found in a search of this forum are related to a 10MB file having trouble with memory in v1.8.0.  Currently, my 20MB file is not having any obvious problems in v1.9.0 and the preference is to keep a single project.  However, I'd like to avoid bein surprised someday by a project won't open/run if there are known limitations.  Any experiences or recommendations are appreciated

    Not sure if there any hard & fast rule on that.

    However, it would be better if:
    - close ununsed projects in the workspace.
    - modularize the projects into smaller if that is possible or where applicable.
