Problem with adding documents/attachments

I tried to add different attachments, e.g. simple txt files, pdf files, word documents etc., but I am not able to get a valid soap response (=the document is not added as expected). And the functionality works from the UI of my application.

I have tried with/without caching of the document. I get a warning about an unexpected content type.
Do you have any ideas of what I am doing wrong?
I have added my raw soap request and soap response.

1. create a soap request, where I add a simple txt file.
The raw request looks like this:

2. I don't get a response.
The raw response contains the following error:
HTTP/1.1 415 Cannot process the message because the content type 'multipart/related; type="text/xml"; start=""; boundary="----=_Part_0_3493708.1212482567781"' was not the expected type 'text/xml; charset=utf-8'.

    Hi,

    hmm.. the request looks ok from a technical point of view. Can you add the WSDL of the service you are calling?

    Hi Ole,

    Thanks for helping
    I've made a much simpler webservice where i can easily reprodice the problem. It just has a single method that takes a bytearray and returns it.

    I have attached the wsdl file and the code in c# in case you want to read that too.

    We have a client written in c# that can upload these files, so I'm pretty sure that we're just using SoapUI wrong.
    Using the Pro edition I'm just using the browse button and choosing a simple test.txt file which contains the letters "TEST".

    When i try to validate (the red tickmark) before even submitting the rquest (green play button) i get this message:

    "error: base64Binary: Invalid value: not encoded properly; T=base64Binary@http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"

    I've attached a couple of screenshots

    I hope you have an idea of what to do next

    Hi,

    thanks.. can you somehow use a network monitoring tool (tcpmon?) to sniff out the traffic between your working c# client and the server so I can compare the request with the one sent by soapUI?

    I'm having some trouble getting our environment to work
    I'll keep working on getting a capture for you.

    But i think the problem occurs before i even call the service.
    The SoapUI validation (the red checkmark) fails even before i actually submit the request. That looks to me like it's an issue between soapui and my wsdl file and not my actual running service...

    I'll try to make a miniservice, so you can run and see for yourself.

    Hi Ole,

    I've attached two files that should give you a chance to reproduce my problem.

    1) service.asmx is a very simple asp.net webservice, that should run if you have IIS installed and copy it to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\service.asmx
    I think it requires .net 2 in order to run.

    2) A soapui project file with a few tests:

    - echoByteArray - numbers
      -  Soapui validation fails with: error: base64Binary: Invalid value: not encoded properly; T=base64Binary@http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema
      - Service can be called anyway but returns "5676574=" instead of the expected "5676574"


    - echoByteArray - letters
      -  Soapui validation fails with: error: base64Binary: Invalid value: not encoded properly; T=base64Binary@http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema
      - Service can be called anyway but returns "abcd" instead of the expected "abcde"


    - echoByteArray - browsed file
      -  Soapui validation fails with: error: base64Binary: Invalid value: not encoded properly; T=base64Binary@http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema
      - response is:
    HTTP/1.1 415 Unsupported Media Type
    X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727
    Date: Thu, 10 Jul 2008 10:35:34 GMT

    I've done something better in case you don't have/like IIS.

    I've attached a zip in the NEXT post with a selfcontained webserver that hosts the service. Just unzip and run the hostservice.bat
    It will start the webserver and start a browser poiting at the service
