Thank you for your post! I think it's better to open a new case with Support Team: https://support.smartbear.com/message/?prod=qacomplete. Please attach some samples files to the case.
Note that you can import only CSV files: Importing and Exporting Tests.
Also, make sure that you have the Rich Text Editor option enabled for Test Steps: https://www.screencast.com/t/kJ5ldcVi
Go to Setup > System Configuration > System Options, check the Test Steps screen check box under the Rich Text Editor section.
