Property transfer to xpath assertion

Hi,

Is it possible to transfer a property to an xpath assertion?
I have a groovy script to produce a random string and transfer it to a request.
Then I need to use an xpath assertion on the response and assert against that string.
How do I reference the property from within the xpath assertion?
