Internet Explorer

How can I get internet explorer to open a new address? I added windows xp professional to my computer and ever since the I have been having alot of problems with internet explorer. Because of the problems I had I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and set it to the main browser. I deleted the Firefox and now Internet Explorer will not open any adresses that I type into the adress bar. How do I make Internet explorer my main web browser again.
