Demo is out of date

The demo is very out of date. Is there anything else a newbie can use to get started with SoapUI?

Page 3 of the demo Web Page Inspection says: Expand the "login" and double click on Request1.

I don't see a Login in the SampleServiceSoapBinding window and I don't see a Request1. Again, the demo doesn't match the software.

And is there a secret to managing open windows? No Tabs? I open a window fully and it hides all the other windows I have opened. To get back to one of the previously opened windows I have close the active window...surely there is a better way to work in SoapUI?

Page 2 demo ends with clicking the Run icon. I did that and see that it is running but what now? Do I end it manually? Does it end on its own? I don't understand what is happening when it is running. Guess the tutorial isn't really for the first time SoapUI user. Page 3 demo just goes on to another topic and leaves me hanging with it running.

Extremely frustrating trying to understand how to use SoapUI. So far nothing but confusion for me.

  • We're sorry that you didn't find the demo useful, and that you are still confused about the user interface. Maybe you will understand more about it if you spend some time browsing the documentation on soapui.org. A general tip is to check out all the pages entitled Getting started (there's one for each section I think), such as this one:

    http://www.soapui.org/Functional-Testin ... sting.html

If you start a test, it will run to the end without any more interaction. You will have to look in the response tab to see the actual response. What you usually do is to add assertions to each request - until then you don't really have proper functional tests.

There is a tabbed view, but unfortunately it is still a Pro feature. Many of us in the SoapUi team thinks we should make an effort to have such a view in the free version. but because this view is currently based on a closed-source library, there are licensing issues that prevent us from open sourcing it. In other words we would need to rewrite it to include it in the free version. The trick to use SoapUI open source efficiently is to avoid maximizing all the windows (or, technically, desktop panels).

    Hope this helps,
