Can SOAP AND REST be used to perform Login Checks?

Hello,
I'm a begineer in using LOADUI and SOAPUI.My question is that if a website doesn't have web-services or hasn't employed RESTFUL API, Can SOAP and REST be still used to perform test on it(particular to perform Load test)?
I've a web-app that has a login page but has no associated Web-services or RESTFUL APIs, how to i perform the login checks?

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

    Yes, most likely with a HTTP TestStep. It depends on how the login is implemented. For load testin, I'd use a soapUI Runner in loadUI.
