email alert set up

I have configure my email alert system as stated in the softwareplanner manual. But when i raised defect and decide to send an email to the person assigned to the defect from software planner, the message email successful sent is written but the intended receipt does not get the email.

i even try sending the email to myself but i did not receive any email.

Please an hope on what to configure.
