Create a customised panel, like the ToDo panel, but using your own 'key words' instead
Currently, the ToDo panel available in TC is useful when you specify a comment or the like using certain pre-defined keywords like 'TODO' and 'DONE'. What I propose is to have a similar panel, that we can customise using our own key words. For example, I could create a new panel, call it 'Version 4.1' and also create my own key words like, 'V4.1', whereby if I specify a comment using the key word 'V4.1', to indicate that I'm working on Version 4.1, then I will have a panel containing a list of all my comments with my keyword 'V4.1'. A user can use whatever keywords they desire in order to keep a list of their work. Also, similarly to the 'TODO' and 'DONE' option that gets alternated between each other in the TODO Panel, a user can create something where two key words alternate between each other as well. Other parameters similarly to the existing ones like 'Priority', 'Category', etc or using our own customised parameters can be setup as well. Also, the 'Line Number' and 'Location', as it is currently being used when you do a search, should also be added to the TODO Panel for easier reference. Feel free to discuss anyone...1.4KViews4likes1CommentRe: Easier way to locate X&Y co-ordinates
I have been converting some old code to change from X&Y to actually specifying the object and then doing a centre click inside which is fine. However, when I have to locate a certain row or column or header within a Grid, then that's one area where I need to know the X&Y co-ordinates so it can click at a certain spot. Also, within certain data fields, you might have some lookup popup menu items within the data field, say on the right side, that need to be clicked and then you would need an X&Y to click them. We even have a field that within the field, expands to a sub menu and beyond so that could also require me to click on a certain location within the field. I am not sure of any other option, for now.1.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: provide "break on error" option
I have my TC setup with a 'Pause on Error' set to true so if an error does occur, it pauses the program exactly when the error occurred, then I can check my variables and the screen's status, and if need be, do a step by step from then on or correct the values on my screen in order to re-continue the testing. This works fine unless the error caused is not fixable at that point due to something not done properly before the error occurred. A better solution would be that when an error occurs and the 'Pause on Error' is activated, then if you are able to go back a few steps, possibly even change the script (which currently you can't in Pause mode) and/or change the screens data as well (this option may not be reversible), and continue testing from that previous spot. That will be much better as you can re-adjust your code 'on the fly' and continue the testing process without the need to re-start the whole test again. For now, a 'Pause on Error' should do the trick for you.12KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Easier way to locate X&Y co-ordinates
Thank you for your input Ravik. I personally think the bubble option is the easiest and most convenient for us testers as it gives you the result in an instant and it changes as you move the mouse. Very quick to get the solution too. If you have multiple objects, like a Panel or data field, then you could possibly alternate between them, with a click of the mouse, in order to get the different X&Y co-ordinates for the multiple objects. Alternatively, you could just click anywhere on a screen and a list will appear specifying each available objects X&Y co-ordinates for that particular position. It could display one object or many objects depending on the available objects focused at that point in the screen. Then within your program scripts, you can decide which object you want to use to activate the Click function. Currently, the Record Script option only finds one object's X&Y but there could be multiple solutions from multiple objects which are not available to view. Hopefully, something simple and quick will be available soon.1.6KViews0likes0CommentsEasier way to locate X&Y co-ordinates
Within my script, I usually program a click on certain fields or other sections using the Click function. For example, wJob.Click( 35, 20 ). However, when I want to enter a new script command using the Click function, in order to find out the X&Y co-ordinates of the item I want to click, I have to use the "Record Script" option in TestComplete to find the X&Y co-ordinates, which actually works but is very slow and time consuming. Therefore, is it possible to have an option that when you click an item, anywhere in my software program, and I can get the X&Y co-ordinate/position immediately? Alternatively, a new feature could be that when you click the new menu option within TestComplete to get X&Y and then you use your mouse to hover above any of the items, then the X&Y position and the Name of the item will be displayed in a bubble screen next to the mouse's cursor. Similar to the Object Spy feature but with a X&Y co-ordinates as well. This also eliminates the need to go to the Object Browser or Object Spy to find the item's name that you want to use the Click function for. My suggestion above or something similar like that, will save a lot of time trying to figure out what numbers I should enter into the Click function. Thank you for reading this.1.7KViews1like4CommentsList of items modified within a script file
When you make a change in a script file, a YELLOW indicator is placed on the left hand side, next to the line number. Every change that is made is referenced by its own line number change. Once a change has been saved, then the colour changes from YELLOW to GREEN. What will be very useful, is something similar to the List of Breakpoints that you can access from the "View/Debug/Breakpoints" screen, is to have a menu item that gives you a list of all the script file changes marked in Yellow or Green i.e. if I could go to say something like "View/Debug/Go to Changes" or something like that, and get a list of the changes made, then it will make it easier for me to locate the changes within my script file very quickly instead of having to scroll down a large script file looking for the little YELLOW or GREEN highlight indicators. Also, if you could place this new feature on the Menu Toolbar so you could just click on the 'Next' or 'Previous' button to take you to the next or previous YELLOW/GREEN modification, within the same document. This will be a simple click option to navigate from one change to another. If you want to expand the search option to also display breakpoints and any other useful items then the user will have the option to select which options to use in their search. This way I can track my changes much quicker and see what changes I have made before saving the changes of the file. Let me know if there is already an option otherwise, if there is no current option, whether this is a possible future change.991Views1like0Comments
