Combine API calls with UI script

Is there a way to make API calls in between UI test steps? According to the LoadNinja documentation in https://support.smartbear.com/loadninja/docs/api-tests/index.html it says "you can even combine API tests with UI tests in one load scenario". 
Can someone explain how this can be achieved.

Our apologies, but this is incorrectly stated in the documentation. LoadNinja does not support combining API and UI tests in the same load scenario. I have submitted a request to change this in the documentation. What LoadNinja can do, and the suggested edit I proposed to our documentation team: "you can even launch separate API and UI load scenarios simultaneously and have them execute synchronously."
