We are decommissioning some old equipment and I went to move our SB licenses to a new server. In doing so, I found that I was unable to license on a virtual machine. Our new infrastructure is 90% virtual and this is becoming more and more common. Our product licensing support virtual environments, but does break when VMs are swapped in a load balancing situation. Having the ability to host the concurrent licenses on a VM is ideal for us, even with some limitations.

You can have your license updated to allow installation on a VM. (Comes with it's own risks ... mainly around VM's moving around, which you're already aware of, but can be switched off)
But you need to contact SmartBear support to enable it.
