use regedit to validate comment/defect (other) entries

Request Summary:

We have a requirement to provide a pre-amble to each comment/defect.  These portion markings are required for us.  The limited ability to edit comments coupled with the re-work required to correct missing markings limit our ability to meet our needs.

Request Criticality:

High

Estimated Savings:

This is a product quality need for us.  This saves 3 to 5 minutes per comment (not thread) that is missed (approximately 20-30% of comments).  Training has limited success as there are limited situations where this applies.

Request Details:

As a reviewer, I would like to be able to configure the system with a RegEdit expression to validate the existence of a substring within a comment.  Ideally, if a RegEdit expression could be associated with any text entry it would be great.

Business Justification:

Business and/or customer processes are not being met due to the inability to monitor and correct non-compliance.

Specific Implementation Requests:

If a RegEdit string can be associated with ‘text entry’ field(s) (at least comments currently) that the system can use to validate entry string PRIOR to accepting the comment.

  1. Define RegEdit string
  2. Associated RegEdit string with the comment (or other field)
  3. When a user enters a comment, the RegEdit string will validate the string, if the test is invalid the comment will stay in an active edit mode until successful validation of the RegEdit string. Error indication would be helpful
