SoapUI Broken on Mac

I installed SoapUI 5.6.0 Open Source on the Mac to view a project created by a colleague using Windows. Upon opening, I see a white screen with two tabs: SoapUI 5.6.0 and Endpoint Explorer. The application is unresponsive indefinitely but keeps a single core pegged until the app is killed. Various online posts suggest this has been a persistent issue and recommends disabling functionality. I have tried modifying vmoptions.txt and soap.sh. Neither work and modifying an app bundle is problematic. Apple also reports the application as potentially dangerous and requires an exception in System Preferences to "run".

Is this app even supported on Mac?
