Running test steps manually after the test suite has run in Java

I saw this, I'm trying to steer clear of groovy scripts in the soapui project file. Saying this I did add a teardown script that loaded the relevent teststeps and run them. The problem im facing is that these test steps run in the teardown script don't have testsuite set property values.
Any ideas ?
