getNodeValue is not passing the value from XPath to variable

Has anyone seen this issue.  When asserting a value from a database property vs. a holder.getNodeValue.  The getNodeValue is not passing the value as expected?  Here is my groovy script assertion...

Has anyone run into this issue before?  I have tried the same assert on SOAP UI 2.5.1 and 3.0.1 Proversions.  I don't understand why using the same syntax I am able to get the Request holder back but the response always returns [] so of course the assertion fails.  I have viewed many of the posts here and have tried a variety of situations.  I have declared namespaces and that doesn't seem to be the issue.  Is there some way to manually parse the XML so that I can capture the values individually?
