Yes, gone through that article. Infact that article helped me in fixing the first problem (Maven 1.0.5 & 3.0). Anyway, I think for creating custom extensions I need not necessarily successfully compile & install those plugin projects. So, unless someone has a solution I'll crack-on with my custom extensions. Thanks anyway for posting a reply.
