action you are doing when this issue emerges?

The best way to recreate this problem is to drag and drop a new test case within a test suite. Note, that I've seen this happen eventually throughout the course of working with 4.5, but this is the quickest way to create the issue.

Steps:
1. Open a test suite with existing wsdl test steps.
2. Create a new wsdl test step.
3. Drag the new test step before some other test step in the test suite.
Expected Result: The test step is moved and the user can open it and look at the test steps, or look at any other test step in the tree.
Actual Result: The test step is moved. Opening it to the test steps won't respond. Attempting to open other test cases in the tree to show the list of test steps will fail. Eventually, all of SoapUI 4.5 will no longer refresh and appears unresponsive. SoapUI must be closed.

I'm sorry but I was not able to reproduce issue you are having ( I used latest nightly build ). Where the any error displayed in error log?
Or if you could create a sample project which we can use to reproduce? I know it looks a bit silly to ask for it, but from your description
how to reproduce it, must be something we are missing.

this is happening to me also since 4.5.x.

all i do is i try to drag and drop few requests in test case.
i have test case with 200 and more test steps.
when i try to move steps from place 170 to 40 for example it blocks. sooner or later.

today i try with latest nightly:
soapUI Pro 4.5.1.1-SNAPSHOT, copyright (C) 2007-2012 smartbear.com http://www.soapui.org | http://smartbear.com Build [internal], Build Date 2012/11/06 00:48
...same problem.

i use WinXP SP3.

I've also tried to reproduce this with 100 TestCases, but failed to do so.

Sorry it has been so long. I am unable to send the file as it contains proprietary information. I have a test file with about 30 test cases each with varying number of test steps. I am seeing the same problem in 4.5.2 and I cannot move test cases around. I cannot save the file when I do this, so I cannot manage test cases. I can add test cases to the end of the list of test cases, but not before any other test case. I'm on 64bit Windows 7 with java 1.7 update 24.

I also cannot save a the project once I move a test case. It gets in a weird state where there is no ability to save the plan. I can close the project if I choose not to save the project. When I open it, all my changes are lost unless I saved before the move.

I'm sorry to hear you're still having these problems. I am unfortunately unable to reproduce your issue, running SoapUI 4.5.2 on Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3. If you look at the "[SoapUI-home]/bin/soapui-errors.log" file, are there any errors generated when this behavior occurs?

I tailed the soapui-errors log and did not see any errors occur when I moved the test case to another position within the test suite. I also left soapui running for a while to see if it just takes time to update, but it is still in the same state. I see the moved test case, but when I attempt to open it with the +, it does not respond and won't open.
