REST Post Service data providing problem

Hello!

As I understand it, you want to:

1. Pass the entire content of your attached XML file in a single REST request.
2. You want to store the content of this XML file in a single Excel spreadsheet cell.
3. You want to iterate this 1000 times, with different data/xml/cells.


As I understand it, the problem is that:

4. Excel doesn't allow you to store the content of the XML file in a single cell.



If this is the case, I'm afraid that there's not much to do since it's a restriction in Excel and not in soapUI. Perhaps you should consider moving to a Directory DataSource that fetches .xml-files instead of an Excel DataSource?

thanks for the fast reply.

1.I want to Provide the entire content of attached XML file in a single REST POST Request Method

2. I want to do a Load Tests for 1000 Runs of REST Post Request Operation that means i need to provide data 1000 times
for 1000 Times of Run of REST Post Request Test Step


I need to find how can i Provide 1000 xml's for the Load Tests,I tried with Excel but it is not possible using Excel


Kindly help me on how this can be resolved best?

Hi Krish,

sure;

1) save the desired XML files to be posted to a directory
2) set up a data-driven test using a Directory DataSource pointing at this directory
3) add one property to this DataSource, name it whatever you want (the contents of the file will be read into this property)
4) set the request content of the POST request to expand this property, ie if your DataSource step is named "DataSource" and its property is named "FileContent", you would enter ${DataSource#FileContent} in the request content field - this will be replaced with the actual value of the property when the request is sent.

Does this make sense?

I'm facing one more problem like below,

1.In my Project REST POST Request needs GET Request to be called first.

with out calling the GET Request the POST Request wont work.

2.In this scenario I need to call the GET Request first then we need to transfer the id generated in GET Request to POST Request.

3. I need to follow the same scenario for doing the Load Testing for each time in POST.

am I clear

Please guide me on this Issue

Create the GET Request, put it before the POST request, and put a Property Transfer inbetween the two.

I followed the Suggestions suggested by soap UI Support.

The Steps,

1. Created REST Request1(GET Request) generated the Id

2.Created REST Request 2 (POST Request)

3.Created the Property Transfer Step and Trasfered the generated ID from step 1 to TestCase Property i.e claim_id

4.Created the Data Source Step with Property name xmldata and used Directory Data Source (with 3 different xml's)

5.In Every Xml Part pf Directory Data Source mentioned

<claim_id>${#TestCase#claim_id}</claim_id>

6.Created the Data Source loop step

Source: Data Source
Target: Request 2 (POST Request2)

7.Entered the ${DataSource#xmldata} in the request content field of Request 2 (POST Request)


Expected

My requirement is It should Complete the REST POST Operation for first xml(In Directory Data Source) and Return to the Step 1 continue the same Process then Complete POST Operation for second xml

Continue this Process Until the Load Tests Completes.

Actual
--------
Now When I do the Load Testing(3 Total Runs) It is Calling the First xml only Thrice and first xml data only Posted Thrice



am I Clear?

Hi,

you need to put the datasource loop after the second rest request, so it can loop back to it for each row in the datasource..

I put the datasource loop after the second rest request,still the only one xml is Invoked every time .


Can you please check the directory data source Step in the first Screen Shot that I attached to this post.
