The original author has discovered and solved the issue. I am posting it here in case it will be helpful for someone else.
Somehow there was a mismatch with the service endpoint being used by the test step and the service endpoint for the ServiceWSBinding (one had ?wsdl on the end and the other one didn’t). It is certainly not something that was changed on purpose, but seems to be something done accidentally when making changes to the script between one version and the next.
