I spent some time today looking through the W3 specification, and sure enough, it's valid. Several examples use the @ symbol, so it's use is fairly widespread.
Thank you for the offer, but I'll need to figure a way to parse this correctly. I'm not sure if this is just an issue with the XMLInputFactory, but at least now I can confirm that it's not some kind of quirk that's unique to SOAPUI.
