Perforrmance Issues Tomcat

we have encountered a few performance issues while using tomcat for our mockServices.
We have generated them according to your documentation (with soapUI pro 4.6.4 - havent done the switch to 5.0 yet) and deployt the .war files via tomcat webUi. There we have connected a HSQLDB as seperate instance on the server. this combination is about 4 to 5 times slower than on our notebooks (soapUI local with HSQLDB on server). we also see a huge memory consumation if many users (10+) are using the service.
are there any hints / tipps
