Needs to validate Range of values in response

Could you please help me out for validate range values in response xml using xpath assertion or any other assertions if possiable.
Ex : I am passing date='2013-05-08' values through request xml then getting in response, date value is getting greater than or equal to input date value. so, here i need to validate date value in response xml using xpath assertion if date value is greater than or equal.
Please let me know, how to validate date values in response xml using xpath assertion? and provide steps to validate.
