Need Support

I am new to soapui world and just started using it. I have lots of test data and I am loading it through spreadsheet.....when I run the test case ...it is not letting me create any xpath or content assertion also I cannot see the outline in soapui pro . When I try to create xpath its giving me 'Unexpected Element : XML_DOC_DECL' error. Help needed urgent !!
