Do XPath Match wildcards still work?
See attached screenshot. I am getting an error trying to use a wildcard (*) in an Xpath Match assertion.

There is nothing in the error log regarding this.
(There are however, on starting soapUI there are lots of errors that are connected to another issue I have opened about DataGen step and external scripts. Are DataGen steps executed on startup?)
