ClassCastException on startup + unable to exit gracefully

Hello,

I'm new to soapUI, and have just installed soapUI 3.6.1.
I've tried to follow the steps posted in
http://www.soapui.org/Getting-Started/ your-first-soapui-project .html,
but I fail at step 2.

Instead of producing a project named "Getting Started", I FIRST see no change to the Projects tree.
This leads me to try steps 1-2 again. On the second attempt, I see an error dialog declaring that
"An error of type ClassCastException occured". Elaboration description reads "java.lang.ClassCastException: com.eviware.soapui.config.impl.EndpointStrategyConfigImpl cannot be cast to com.eviware.soapui.config.DefaultEndpointStrategyConfig". (Screen capture attached)

Clicking "OK" on this error dialog returns me to the "New soapUI Project". I click "Cancel".

At this point, when I try to Exit (File Menu > Exit), I get a peculair prompt dialog:
I see a narrow title bar displaying the word "Question", a slider button (to move the dialog
to my second monitor), and a red x close button, but no body for the form. (Screen capture
attached). I can close this dialog, but that simply drops me back into soapUI 3.6.1. All attempts
to exit the application from the app itself lead to this "Question" roadblock dialog -- forcing me to
close the app from Windows Task Manager.

Incidentally, at least one other dialog prompt shows this misbehavior - the "Clear Workspace" dialog
displayed after selecting "Clear Workspace" from the "File Menu" (or from the Projects right-button menu).

Any guidance?

Regards,
dvs
