I went thru the actual description of the orignal topic (first one) when last reply was sent, may be i could not go thru all of replies and thanks for point the cause of concern.
Please see the two attachments 1) sample xml used 2)datasource xml step where i could see the data when you run the step
If you notice Xml Data, there are mulitple Rows( that is person with ns1 as namespace), each row has two Columns(firstName, lastName with ns2 as namespace) and top level response has ns as namespace.
So, the correction is to use '*:' as prefix (using Edit button) to the column xpath value as shown in the Column Xpaths
Below you can see firstName with two records.
