ReadyAPI / SoapUI MCP support for AI-based API test generation

Hi SmartBear Community,

I am currently researching MCP support for ReadyAPI / SoapUI as part of my Master’s thesis.

The goal of my thesis is to investigate how GitHub Copilot or AI agents could be used to generate complete API test cases in ReadyAPI. For this workflow, an MCP server for ReadyAPI would be very helpful, so that the AI agent could create or modify test suites, test cases, request steps, assertions, test data and possibly execute the tests via ReadyAPI/TestRunner.

I checked the available SmartBear MCP information, but I could not find any clear documentation about ReadyAPI or SoapUI support.

My questions are:

  1. Is there already an official or planned MCP server for ReadyAPI / SoapUI?
  2. Can the current SmartBear MCP Server be used in any way for ReadyAPI functional API testing workflows?
  3. Are there recommended alternatives or integration approaches for using AI agents with ReadyAPI test case generation?

Any guidance, documentation, roadmap information or best-practice recommendations would be very helpful.

    Hey Amgad,

    Welcome to the community!

    I come bearing good news :)

    1. We recently introduced an official SmartBear ReadyAPI MCP Server! You can see the updated documentation here

    You can read the launch blog here

    2. Currently the ReadyAPI MCP server is started by ReadyAPI, whereas the SmartBear MCP server would be manually started on your machine via your configured tool of choice. We are looking into how they may more closely integrate, but you'll be able to connect to both the ReadyAPI MCP server, and the SmartBear MCP server, to be able to have access to the wider context of all your available SmartBear tooling

    3. We have seen users augment the xml test suites directly with LLM's, however the ReadyAPI mcp server has access to RAPI under the hood which provides improvements over using a third-party MCP

    I would also recommend joining our user experience survey, where you can speak to the team, share your thoughts, they will be invaluable in shaping ReadyAPI + MCP for the use cases that our users want to see.
